How to be saved

If you are asking the question, what must I do to be saved? You are not alone. The same question was asked of Paul in the book of Acts. Paul responds with, ” Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved.” (Acts 16:31) But what does that mean? Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ means that you trust He alone has paid for your sins and has given you His righteousness.

He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Below is what the Bible tells us about our salvation.

1) Sin is the Problem

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23)

as it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one. (Romans 3:10)

2) Sin has Consequences

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

3) Jesus is the Solution

But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

4) Our Response

To turn from our sin and confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

5) Our Assurance

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)
